PM, Canadian envoy discuss stronger economic and diplomatic ties

Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister House this morning. SAPM Tariq Fatemi and the Foreign Secretary were also present.

The Prime Minister felicitated the High Commissioner on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would further strengthen the long-standing and friendly relations between Pakistan and Canada. He conveyed his warm regards and greetings for the Canadian leadership and said that he looked forward to working with them to build stronger ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister highlighted mines and minerals as an important area of mutual interest and said that Barrick Gold’s role in the Reko Diq project would be the harbinger of development in Pakistan and a success story of Pakistan–Canada economic cooperation.

The Canadian High Commissioner thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and expressed his resolve to work towards further enhancing Pakistan–Canada bilateral relations, particularly in agriculture, energy, trade, investment, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Prime Minister lauded the valuable contribution of the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Canada, which continues to serve as a vital bridge between the two nations.
