Punjab extends Section 144 for seven more days amid security concerns

The Punjab Home Department has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for seven more days, until November 15, to maintain law and order.

According to a statement from the Punjab Home Department, all public gatherings, protests, rallies, processions, sit-ins, and similar activities remain prohibited. The law bars four or more individuals from assembling in public places.

The statement also announced a complete ban on the display of weapons and the use of loudspeakers, except for the call to prayer and Friday sermons. Additionally, the distribution or publication of inciting, hate-filled, or sectarian content is strictly prohibited.

The decision, officials said, was taken to ensure public safety, protect lives and property, and maintain peace.

The restrictions do not apply to weddings, funerals, official duties, or court-related activities, and officers performing their duties are exempt. Authorities warned that public gatherings could be targeted by terrorists or miscreants seeking to exploit protests for anti-state activities.
