The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain (PTA) has announced a nationwide protest movement against the 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling for a suspension of parliamentary proceedings until their demands are addressed.
In a press conference in Islamabad, PTA Chairman Mahmood Achakzai said the protest would begin immediately, with slogans starting at 8:30 pm. Today’s slogan, he said, will be: “We do not accept such a constitution.”
Speaking at the joint press conference, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar criticized the amendment, saying it was made to serve the interests of certain individuals. “The Constitution is not tied to personalities. The elite are amending it for their own benefits,” he added.
Senator Raja Nasir Abbas condemned the amendment for undermining both Parliament and the judiciary. “This is pushing the country toward destruction. We will go to any lengths to stop this amendment,” he said.
The PTA has called for sustained protests and civil mobilization until the government addresses concerns over the amendment, which critics argue consolidates power for political elites at the expense of democratic institutions.
