PTI threatens protests over delay opposition leader appointment in Senate

1 min read

The opposition in the Senate held an emergency huddle on Saturday to finalise its strategy over the federal cabinet’s approval of the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The meeting, chaired by Barrister Ali Zafar, discussed whether to reject the bill outright or propose further amendments and changes to it.

The session was attended by the PTI-nominated Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, Senator Noorul Haq Qadri, Senator Falak Naz Chitrali, Senator Abbas and other opposition members.

Following the meeting, opposition senators called on Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani. A PTI delegation, led by Barrister Ali Zafar, pressed the chairman to notify the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition, saying all required signatures had already been submitted. “The opposition’s parliamentary right is being undermined,” Zafar told the Senate chief.

According to sources, the PTI has also decided to launch strong protests inside and outside Parliament if the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition continues to be delayed.
