The Punjab government has signed an agreement with the Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan to gradually transfer control of 177 seminaries and 330 mosques previously linked with the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

According to media reports, the move aims to bring these institutions under mainstream religious and legal oversight following concerns over extremism and non-compliance with state regulations.

A memorandum issued by Sahibzada Abdul Mustafa Hazarvi, Secretary-General of Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan, confirmed the development, assuring the Punjab government that the organization would fully adhere to all agreed conditions.

“All madaris under our management will abide by national security, stability, and social peace. No individual involved in suspicious or subversive activities will be allowed to serve or study in these institutions,” the memorandum stated.

Under the agreement, the newly managed institutions must operate strictly within the framework of Pakistani law, promote patriotism, and refrain from any activities contrary to the interests of the state.

The document further emphasizes that the seminaries will ensure compliance with state policies, and the government retains the authority to take legal action in case of violations.

As part of the handover process, the Sunni board has directed all seminary heads and administrators to sign a formal declaration form affirming their commitment to national peace, security, and lawful conduct. The affidavit requires each signatory to provide their name, ID number, and institution details, pledging that their establishment will not engage in or allow any activity harmful to the country or society.

“Our institutions will foster patriotism and educate students to respect and obey the law,” the directive adds.
The agreement marks a major step in the provincial government’s effort to regulate religious institutions previously linked to banned organizations and integrate them into a framework aligned with national objectives of peace and counter-extremism.
