Pakistan stresses strong parliamentary role in debt management

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, participated in a high-level policy roundtable on “Strengthening the Role of Parliament in Public Debt Management,” jointly organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Pakistan.

Khan emphasized the importance of transparent debt reporting, institutional reforms, and strong parliamentary oversight to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainable economic growth. He noted that effective debt management is vital for maintaining macroeconomic stability and creating fiscal space for development priorities, including climate adaptation and social protection.

These discussions reflected the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to embedding fiscal discipline and transparency within its broader economic reform agenda. Khan reaffirmed that integrating climate resilience and fiscal governance remains central to Pakistan’s pursuit of sustainable and inclusive growth.
