The ITF Pakistan National Foods World Junior Tennis Championship J-60 continued at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, with young players from across the globe showcasing top-level talent. The event marks the first time a J-60 tournament is being held in Pakistan.
A significant number of junior players from China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lithuania, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Nepal, and Pakistan are competing in the championship, which is sponsored by National Foods of Pakistan.
The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Pakistan, Ladislav Steinhübel, along with Asad Saifullah Khan, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic, visited the venue to watch the matches. Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi was also present.
Aisam-ul-Haq said Pakistan is proud to host the higher-ranked J-60 tournament for the first time and announced plans to host two J-60 and five J-30 international junior tournaments next year to further promote the sport.
In the boys’ singles pre-quarterfinals, Pakistan’s Muhammad Hassan Usmani beat Theodor Kraytchev of Great Britain 6-2, 6-2, while Abubakar Talha defeated compatriot Zain Saeed 6-1, 6-0. Mikaeel Ali Baig overcame Thailand’s Napradh Lalai 6-0, 6-3. Japan’s Ippie Matsushima edged Pakistan’s Asad Zaman 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Turkey’s Emre Atlamis beat M. Haziq Aasim 7-6(1), 6-2, and Lithuania’s Kristijonas Milasauskas defeated Pakistan’s Zohaib Afzal Malik 6-1, 6-0. Pakistan’s Hamza Roman downed Abdul Basit 6-0, 7-5, while Czech player Nicolas Moravec beat Korea’s Jun Woo Ye 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
In the boys’ doubles pre-quarterfinal, Pakistan’s Shehryar Anees and Asad Zaman beat the pair of Theodor Kraytchev (GBR) and Napradh Lalai (THA) 7-5, 6-4.
In the girls’ doubles quarterfinals, Zihan Feng (China) and Yewon Lee (Korea) defeated Pakistan’s Zunaisha Noor and Turkey’s Ayris Tokac 6-2, 6-1. Russia’s Varvara Rubtsova and Japan’s Eyu Yoshida won their match 6-1, 4-6 (10-8).
