Customs foils Rs38.5m cigarette smuggling bid in Rakhni

The Field Enforcement Unit (FEU), Rakhni, under the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Quetta, has successfully foiled a major attempt to smuggle a large consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes concealed under a coal load.

According to official statement, (FEU), Rakhni, acting on credible intelligence, a Hino truck, Reg. No. TTD-853, ostensibly carrying coal was intercepted near Rakhni. Upon thorough examination, 188 cartons of smuggled foreign-origin cigarettes were recovered. The total market value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs. 23.5 million, while the vehicle used in transportation is valued at Rs. 15 million, bringing the total seizure value to Rs. 38.5 million.

The seized goods and vehicle have been shifted to the customs warehouse for legal proceedings under the Customs Act, 1969.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has commended the Rakhni enforcement team for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming its firm commitment to curbing smuggling, protecting national revenue, and promoting lawful trade across Pakistan.
