Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the restoration of gas connections for domestic consumers across the country, fulfilling what he described as a long-standing public demand.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of RLNG gas connections in Islamabad on Sunday, the prime minister said that providing gas to households was an essential requirement, and the government has now decided to resume new domestic connections nationwide.
Shehbaz Sharif recalled that during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government in 2022, the country was facing serious challenges in gas supply. At the time, he said, the government was unable to issue new gas connections due to a shortage, and expressed regret that citizens had to be asked for patience.
The prime minister stated that hundreds of thousands of applications for new gas connections have already been received, and with the restoration announced today, a major public demand has now been met.
Highlighting past challenges, Shehbaz Sharif said that in 2013, the country experienced electricity load-shedding of up to 20 hours a day. He credited the previous PML-N government for taking steps to reduce power outages and work towards improving energy infrastructure.
He emphasized that the current government remains committed to economic stability and development, saying that “hard work and continued effort” are necessary to move the country forward.
