Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the province’s first comprehensive Special Health Screening Program for special children, aimed at providing medical care, screening, and specialized treatment across Punjab.
According to official details, health screening has begun for more than 35,600 special children enrolled in Special Education Centers across the province. The services include treatment, eye care, dental examinations, and screening for other medical conditions.
Officials said that medical teams provided on-the-spot treatment to over 20,000 students at Special Education Centers. Meanwhile, more than 9,000 students are receiving ongoing treatment at Basic Health Units, Tehsil Headquarters, and District Headquarters Hospitals. In major hospitals, over 5,000 special children are currently undergoing further treatment and evaluation.
The government has also carried out a successful door-to-door enrollment campaign, resulting in over 5,000 new admissions in Special Education Centers.
Under the CM Punjab Khudmukhtar (Self-Sufficiency) Program, two new courses have been launched in special education institutions, focusing on design, YouTube content creation, social media skills, and e-commerce.
The province has approved the establishment of 10 new state-of-the-art computer labs in Special Education Centers, while 8 existing labs will be upgraded with modern equipment and training facilities.
Additionally, 18 master trainers and 1,760 students will receive training under the skill development component of the program. The top 50 performers in the training phase will be awarded laptops.
Officials say the program aims to enhance inclusive education, digital empowerment, and long-term economic independence for special children across Punjab.
