Pakistan team to wear pink jerseys in T20 for breast cancer awareness

2 min read

Pakistan’s national cricket team will wear pink-themed jerseys during the first T20 International against South Africa as part of a breast cancer awareness initiative. The move comes under the United Nations’ vision for promoting global health awareness, with the Pakistan Cricket Board partnering with Pink Ribbon Pakistan to highlight the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

The match, scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi, will feature several symbolic elements: the Pakistan team will wear special pink kits, while the South African side and match officials will wear pink ribbons. The stumps for the match have also been customised in pink.

Commentators during the live broadcast will share awareness messages to encourage screening and prevention. Additionally, Pink Ribbon Pakistan announced that the Pink Ribbon Hospital in Lahore will provide free breast cancer screening and check-ups on October 28.

PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed said the Board has always prioritised using cricket as a platform to promote public awareness. He stated that engaging the nation through sports helps convey key health messages with greater impact.

The initiative aims to increase public understanding of breast cancer, which remains one of the most common cancers affecting women in Pakistan, where early diagnosis can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
