In response to rising incidents of terrorism, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have formed their first-ever sniper squad, specially trained and equipped to neutralize threats from a distance.
According to the Central Police Office (CPO), the newly established unit has been provided with advanced training, state-of-the-art weaponry, and thermal imaging devices to operate effectively in diverse conditions.
Each squad will consist of 10 highly trained personnel skilled in long-range marksmanship and precision targeting of concealed enemies. Initially, the sniper units will be deployed across the southern districts, Malakand Division, border regions and areas often vulnerable to militant activity.
A police spokesperson said the elite sniper squads have completed an intensive three-month training program focused on modern sniper techniques and counter-terror operations. In addition, during the winter months, personnel will be equipped with thermal imaging devices to enhance their night and low-visibility capabilities.
Officials said the initiative aims to bolster the province’s counterterrorism response and ensure greater security in sensitive regions bordering Afghanistan.
