Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the start of financial assistance for flood-affected families, with relief cheques to be distributed from October 17.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister, where the final flood relief package was approved. Under the scheme, families of those who lost their lives will receive Rs1 million each.

Those who suffered permanent disabilities will be given Rs500,000, while people with minor disabilities will get Rs300,000.

For property losses, owners of fully collapsed brick houses will be compensated with Rs1 million, and partially damaged houses will receive Rs300,000. Similarly, mud houses that were completely destroyed will be compensated with Rs500,000, and those partially damaged will receive up to Rs150,000.

The cabinet also approved compensation for livestock losses, with up to Rs500,000 for large animals and Rs50,000 for small animals. In recognition of their services during the floods, the government announced a Rs15,000 monthly salary increase for Civil Defence volunteers.

To support farmers, the meeting approved Rs20,000 per acre for those who lost 25 percent of their crops, along with a waiver of water charges and agricultural income tax in 2,855 flood-affected villages across Punjab.

The cabinet condemned social media campaigns spreading false information about the province and assured that every flood victim will receive relief. It was also decided that no new construction will be allowed in riverbeds to prevent future disasters.
