Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, met with Vatican City’s Ambassador, Archbishop Germano Penemote, to discuss rising trends of religious intolerance, terrorism, and ways to strengthen interfaith harmony.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that the government is committed to fostering an environment of inclusivity, tolerance, and mutual respect for every individual in society. He highlighted that Pakistan has taken multiple measures to politically, socially, and economically empower minorities.

“Seats have been reserved for minorities in federal and provincial legislatures. The establishment of the National Commission for Minorities, approval of an Interfaith Harmony Policy, and initiatives promoting religious tolerance have ensured that minorities enjoy freedom and autonomy in practical terms,” said Sardar Muhammad Yousaf.

He added that Pakistan views its relations with Vatican City as an excellent opportunity to strengthen ties, and that exchange of delegations will further enhance cooperation.

Archbishop Penemote acknowledged the contribution of the Catholic Church in Pakistan, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare. He also proposed the establishment of a modern university under the management of the Catholic Church.

The Federal Minister assured full cooperation for the proposed initiative. The meeting concluded with Archbishop Penemote extending an invitation to Sardar Muhammad Yousaf to visit Vatican City.
