FIA foils immigration scam at Islamabad airport, two officials arrested

2 min read

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two immigration officials at the New Islamabad International Airport for allegedly facilitating passengers’ illegal travel abroad in exchange for heavy bribes.

According to FIA spokesperson, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nadeem Arshad and Head Constable Mujahid Ali were caught during a surprise inspection ordered by FIA Islamabad Zone Director Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari. The check was carried out by Deputy Director Immigration Salman Liaqat after reports surfaced that staff members were violating the mobile phone ban during duty hours.

The two officials were found using their phones to stay in contact with passengers and human smuggling agents. Mobile data revealed evidence of illegal immigration deals, including attempts to send people abroad, particularly to the Philippines and Uzbekistan, for Rs 50,000 per person.

Investigators also recovered records of millions of rupees in transactions from microfinance accounts linked to the suspects.

The FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle has registered a case, obtained three-day physical remand, and launched further investigations. Officials reaffirmed a “zero-tolerance policy” against corruption and misconduct at airports.
