The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Azad Kashmir and Pakistan chapter, has welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “historic and courageous” address at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, calling it a true reflection of the sentiments of the Kashmiri people.
In a statement, APHC said the prime minister’s speech reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiris’ inalienable right to self-determination. “This bold and clear stance is a message of renewed resolve for the people of Kashmir in their just struggle,” the statement added.
APHC Information Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Butt said the prime minister had rightly underlined that the Kashmir dispute is not merely a territorial issue but a human, moral, and legal question. He warned that ignoring the conflict any further could endanger regional and global peace.
Citing UN Security Council Resolution 47 of April 1948 and subsequent resolutions, the APHC stressed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are guaranteed the right to determine their future through a UN-supervised plebiscite. The statement said India’s unilateral actions in the region were in violation of international law and the UN Charter.
The APHC reiterated that the people of Kashmir regard Pakistan as their true advocate and voice at the international level. It expressed confidence that Islamabad would continue and strengthen its political, diplomatic, and moral support until the struggle reaches its logical conclusion.
The Hurriyat Conference also urged the United Nations, European Union, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), global human rights organisations, and justice-seeking nations to take immediate notice of what it called India’s “state terrorism” in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The statement cited killings, arbitrary arrests, demographic changes, property confiscations, media restrictions, and gross human rights violations as grave breaches of international law and Geneva Conventions.
The APHC called on the international community to move beyond statements and resolutions, urging action under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to secure the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Hurriyat leadership vowed that the Kashmiri people would continue their struggle with determination and sacrifice until freedom is achieved, despite Indian repression and tactics of suppression.
