Oscar-winning actor Angelina Jolie has expressed concern about the state of freedom of speech in the United States while promoting her latest film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain.
Asked if she fears for free speech, Jolie said she loves her country but feels she “does not recognize” it at this moment. She described the increasing division among people and restrictions on personal expression and freedoms as “very, very heavy times.”
Her remarks come amid growing concern over press freedom and criticism of media in the U.S., especially in light of recent governmental pressure and public debate over how dissent is treated.
