Floods force partial closure of M-5 Motorway, alternative routes advised

2 min read

Flooding has damaged multiple sections of the M-5 Motorway, prompting authorities to close the route and advise travelers to use alternative roads.

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, 13 points on M-5 have been affected so far, and there is a risk that an additional 4 to 5 points could also be damaged due to rising floodwaters.

The spokesperson confirmed that the M-5 Motorway remains closed for now. Travelers moving between Multan and Sukkur are advised to use alternative routes. Traffic from Shah Shams Interchange can divert to the National Highway, while travelers from Sukkur can reach Multan via Ouch Sharif Interchange and the National Highway before reconnecting to M-5 at Shershah Interchange.

Authorities emphasized that the Motorway Police are stationed at key points to guide motorists and ensure safe travel. They urged drivers to follow instructions and avoid risky areas until full repairs are completed.

This closure follows recent reports of a section of M-5 near Jalalpur Pirwala being swept away by floodwaters, highlighting the continuing impact of monsoon rains on major transport infrastructure in Punjab.
