Cervical cancer vaccination reaches 75% of girls in Rawalpindi

The District Health Authority has released detailed statistics for the ongoing HPV vaccination campaign aimed at protecting girls aged 9 to 14 from cervical cancer.

According to officials, the campaign has achieved 75% overall coverage across Rawalpindi district, with 148,456 girls vaccinated so far, while 11,247 are still unvaccinated.

Breaking down the coverage by tehsil, Gujjar Khan recorded 82% coverage, with 20,337 girls vaccinated and 1,195 yet to receive the shot. Kahuta also achieved 82% coverage (6,663 vaccinated, 295 pending).

In Kallar Syedan, coverage stands at 56%, with 4,502 girls vaccinated and 1,145 left. Kotli Sattian reported the highest coverage at 87%, with 3,819 girls vaccinated and only 264 pending.

Murree achieved 72% coverage (6,211 vaccinated, 482 pending), while Rawalpindi Cantt reached 82% coverage with 28,037 girls vaccinated and 1,687 remaining.

Rawalpindi City also stands at 82% coverage (33,129 vaccinated, 2,324 pending), whereas Rawalpindi Rural areas recorded 63% coverage, with 27,892 girls vaccinated and 2,342 pending.

Taxila reported 72% coverage, vaccinating 17,866 girls, with 1,513 yet to receive the vaccine.

Health officials said the campaign will continue until all eligible girls are vaccinated, emphasizing the importance of the HPV vaccine in preventing cervical cancer. They urged parents to bring their daughters to the nearest health facility if they have missed the vaccination in schools.
