Peshawar High Court transfers 300 drug cases to accountability courts

1 min read

In a move to streamline the judicial process and reduce the backlog of pending cases, the Peshawar High Court has transferred 300 drug-related cases to three accountability courts.

According to court sources, each accountability court has been assigned 100 cases. The high court has also granted these courts special powers to hear and adjudicate drug-related cases efficiently.

The decision aims to expedite legal proceedings in the province, ensuring quicker resolutions in cases that have been pending for extended periods. Officials say this step reflects a broader effort to improve the criminal justice system and reduce delays in sensitive cases, particularly those involving narcotics.

Authorities emphasize that the transfer will not only alleviate pressure on the high court but also enhance the effectiveness of accountability courts in handling complex cases swiftly.

The courts are expected to begin hearings on the transferred cases immediately, signaling a significant push toward addressing the growing concerns over drug-related crimes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
