
Southern Punjab continues to face a devastating flood situation as hundreds of villages in Shujaabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Ahmadpur Sharqia, Rajanpur, and Vehari remain submerged, displacing tens of thousands of residents and destroying vast stretches of farmland.
According to the Federal Flood Commission, the Chenab River at Panjnad Headworks is experiencing a “very high flood level,” with forecasts warning that the Guddu Barrage could face a similar situation in the next 24 to 48 hours.
In Multan, several areas near Head Muhammad Wala and Sher Shah remain underwater, with entire neighborhoods cut off. Shujaabad and Jalalpur Pirwala have been the hardest hit, with hundreds of thousands of people forced to leave their homes.
In Chachran, hundreds of houses have been swept away by rising waters, thousands of acres of standing crops have been destroyed, and road networks have been completely submerged, cutting off access to relief supplies.
Authorities reported that in Sadiqabad, the Zamindara Bund broke at Nabi Shah, allowing floodwater to rush into populated areas. In Basti Dhondo (Shujaabad), a breach in the protective dyke has widened to 240 feet, worsening the crisis.
Meanwhile, Rajnpur’s katcha (riverine) belt is witnessing mass evacuations, with thousands of residents forced to abandon their homes in Rojhan, Bangla Achha, Sonmiani, and Kot Mithan. In Vehari, more than 100 rural settlements are inundated, while over 76,000 acres of farmland have gone underwater.
District administrations across affected regions have set up flood relief camps and stepped up rescue operations, using drones to locate stranded residents and safely evacuate them. Officials confirmed that over 110,000 people and more than 100,000 livestock have been relocated so far.
In Rahim Yar Khan, the Indus River is at “extremely high flood levels,” leaving multiple villages cut off and residents trapped in their homes. Emergency teams are working through the night to deliver food, water, and medical aid.
