BCCI officials skip Pakistan clash amid boycott campaign, media calls it a ‘silent protest’

LAHORE: Despite being the host of the Asia Cup, top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were noticeably absent during India’s high-profile match against Pakistan, sparking talk of a quiet boycott.

According to Indian media, the absence of senior BCCI members is linked to the boycott campaign surrounding the Pakistan fixture. Most officials have chosen to distance themselves from the game rather than attend in person.

In contrast, during the Champions Trophy, BCCI leaders and state association representatives were present in Dubai. This time, however, ICC Chairman Jay Shah opted to attend a meeting in the United States instead of being at the match.

Reports add that BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia excused himself citing preparations for the Women’s World Cup, while IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal also decided against attending.

Indian media has dubbed this stance a “silent boycott,” though speculation remains that BCCI Vice President and ACC Executive Board member Rajeev Shukla might make a public appearance if India secures a victory.
