KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that farmers across the province can submit their applications for subsidized solar panels to the Director General Agriculture Water Management office in Hyderabad by September 20, 2025.
According to Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Baksh Mahar, the initiative aims to promote water-efficient farming through drip irrigation systems. Under the scheme, farmers with 5 to 25 acres of land will be eligible for solar panels. The provincial government will cover 80 percent of the installation cost, while farmers will pay the remaining 20 percent.
The minister confirmed that the project will initially install 295 solar units on 4,000 acres of farmland. He urged eligible farmers to apply before the deadline to benefit from the scheme, which is designed to boost productivity and reduce electricity costs.
The scheme is part of Sindh government’s broader agricultural reforms and is being implemented on the directives of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to support farmers affected by floods and rising energy prices.
