Pakistan not to attend ICC Women’s World Cup opening ceremony in India

1 min read

Pakistan will not participate in the opening ceremony of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in Guwahati, India, on September 30.

According to sources, neither the captain nor any representative of the Pakistan women’s team will attend the ceremony. This means there will be no Pakistani presence in the traditional activities, including the trophy photoshoot and captains’ press conference, which are customary ahead of ICC tournaments.

The ICC has announced a grand ceremony to coincide with the India-Sri Lanka match in Guwahati, but Pakistan has decided to stay away from all related events and celebrations.

Under the hybrid model, the Pakistan women’s team will play its matches in Sri Lanka. The squad will travel directly from Pakistan to Sri Lanka to feature in the tournament fixtures.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled to run from September 30 to November 2, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
