On Defence Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to modernize Pakistan’s defence capabilities and take decisive action against foreign-sponsored threats.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz said September 6 marked “a day of bravery, unity and determination” as the country commemorates six decades since its armed forces, with public support, repelled external aggression.

“Our brave armed forces, with the full backing of the people, proved that Pakistan is fully capable of protecting its sovereignty and integrity,” he stated, adding that the “invincible spirit of 1965 is still alive today.”

The premier lauded the army, navy and air force for creating “new history” under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Gen Syed Asim Munir by “crushing the arrogance of the enemy.”

He said the sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis would remain a source of inspiration for future generations.

Mr Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising the country’s defence capabilities and confronting the “dual threat of foreign-sponsored terrorism and proxies operating within our borders.” He also expressed solidarity with Kashmiris, terming India’s control of the territory an “illegal occupation.”
