LAHORE: Afghanistan captain and star all-rounder Rashid Khan has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals.
In the third match of the tri-nation series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Rashid delivered a stellar spell, claiming 3 wickets for just 21 runs. With this performance, he first equaled and then surpassed New Zealand’s Tim Southee’s record.
Southee, 36, had taken 164 wickets in 126 matches, while Rashid achieved the milestone in only 98 matches, making him the fastest bowler to reach the top.
Afghanistan also celebrated victory on the field, defeating UAE by 38 runs. Chasing a target of 189 in Sharjah, the hosts managed 150 for 8 in their allotted overs.
With both a personal milestone and a team triumph, Rashid Khan’s performance has once again underlined his stature as one of the modern greats of T20 cricket.
