Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday paid glowing tribute to Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his fourth death anniversary, calling him a “symbol of sacrifice and steadfastness” in the struggle for the right to self-determination.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Zardari said Geelani devoted his entire life to the Kashmiri people’s struggle against Indian oppression and remained unshaken in his commitment to justice and freedom.

“His life is a beacon of courage for all who believe in truth and justice. Despite Indian atrocities, Geelani’s resolve and bravery never wavered,” the President said.

He added that Geelani’s stance inspired the Kashmiri people to remain firm in their freedom struggle. “Pakistan pays homage to the sacrifices of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the Kashmiri people,” he remarked.

President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for Kashmir at every international forum, stressing that the people of Jammu and Kashmir must be granted their right to self-determination as promised in the UN resolutions.

“Indian oppression cannot break the spirit of the Kashmiri people. Geelani’s blood will keep the freedom movement alive forever,” the President stated, praying for the departed leader’s higher ranks in the hereafter.
