Iran launches ballistic missiles near Mossad HQ as war with Israel enters 5th day

7 min read

In the early hours of Tuesday, Iran launched a new wave of missile strikes targeting Israeli territory, as part of its declared retaliation campaign against what it calls “continued Israeli aggression and violations.”

According to Israeli media, Iran launched a strike near the Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv, with thick plumes of smoke seen rising in the area following the attack, sparking fear and panic in the city.

Moreover, Iran’s IRGC said a new wave of missile attacks against occupied Palestine has begun, “more powerful and impactful than before.”

IRGC says “the initiatives and capabilities employed in this operation… have resulted in the successful and maximum impact of the missiles on targets in the occupied territories.”

According to Iranian media, the strikes aimed at strategic and sensitive military and intelligence sites across Israel, including areas along the central coast.

Islamic Republic of Iran has maintained that its military actions are in self-defense following a series of Israeli attacks on Iranian soil, including the recent assassination of senior Iranian commanders.

Video footage circulating on social media showed a projectile in a residential area of Ibthan, while in Herzliya, a bus was hit and caught fire in a parking lot.

Iranian officials claim the strikes demonstrate the country’s precision capabilities and serve as a deterrent to further Israeli incursions.

The Iranian outlets emphasized that the attack was calibrated to avoid civilian casualties while delivering a clear message to Tel Aviv. The country’s armed forces have reiterated that unless Israeli hostilities cease, further “measured and legitimate” responses will follow.

While Israel’s military confirmed missile interceptions and damage in several locations, emergency services reported no casualties.

Iran, however, hailed the operation as a “strategic success” in disrupting Israeli security operations and signaling Tehran’s readiness to escalate if provoked.

21 killed in Israeli attacks on Iran’s Isfahan, Lorestan

Israel strikes Iran’s western province of Lorestan, wherein 21 civilians were martyred, according to an Iranian member of the Parliament, as quoted by international media.

Iranian Mehr news agency is reporting that an Israeli projectile hit a checkpoint in the city of Kashan in the central province of Isfahan this morning, killing at least three people and wounding four others.

The agency quoted Akbar Salehi, deputy security officer to the governor of Isfahan.

The Tasnim and ISNA news agencies also reported on the deaths, but gave no further details.

As we’ve been reporting, more than 220 people have been killed in Israel’s attacks on Iran, including at least 70 women and children.

Attack on Iran State TV

A staff member of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) was martyred following an Israeli airstrike that struck one of the broadcaster’s key buildings in Tehran.

Masoumeh Azimi, an employee at the IRIB secretariat, succumbed to injuries caused by the shockwave from the blast. The strike occurred on Monday during a live broadcast, targeting the building that houses IRIB’s news and political affairs department. At least four projectiles hit the facility, causing casualties and temporarily disrupting transmission.

Despite the chaos, news anchor Sahar Emami remained on air. As the building trembled, she courageously continued the broadcast, declaring “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great), a defiant moment that resonated widely on social media and drew attention to the attack on Iran’s national media.

Several other journalists inside the building were also injured. Shortly after the strike, IRIB’s news director and deputy for political affairs, Hassan Abedini, appeared live on air to denounce what he described as a “diabolic terrorist crime.”

Iran’s foreign ministry strongly condemned the assault, labeling it a “war crime,” and called on the United Nations to hold Israel accountable for targeting journalists and media infrastructure.

The Israeli Ministry of Military Affairs confirmed responsibility for the strike.

Since the escalation of violence in October 2023, Israel has been accused of systematically targeting media workers. Over 250 journalists have been reported killed in the Gaza Strip alone during this period.

The attack on IRIB is part of a broader Israeli military campaign that began early Friday, involving coordinated strikes across Iran, including Tehran. The strikes have reportedly led to the martyrdom of senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and numerous civilians, including women and children.
