The Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani has taken stern action against police personnel found involved with drug dealers, resulting in the forcible dismissal of 17 officials from the force.
An internal inquiry led by senior police officers uncovered the alleged links and support extended by these personnel to narcotics traffickers operating in Rawalpindi.
The dismissed officers include one sub-inspector, four assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), four head constables, and eight constables. Among them is former Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Anwarul Haq.
The other dismissed ASIs are Imran Khalid, Umar, Nadeem, and Shakoor. Head constables Zarif, Anis, and Naseer, along with constables Sami and Imtiaz, were also among those removed from service.
Speaking to the media, CPO Khalid Hamdani said the action was taken following a thorough investigation under the Punjab Police Department’s accountability mechanism. “This crackdown aligns with directives from the Punjab Chief Minister to eradicate the menace of narcotics from society. Any police personnel found colluding with drug dealers will face strict legal consequences,” he stated.
The CPO added that the public has welcomed the police’s stringent measures against drug trafficking networks. He also disclosed that over 500 drug dealers in the city are currently serving prison sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years following convictions in court.
