Punjab police repel militant attack on Lakhani check post

2 min read

Punjab Police thwarted a major attack by militants on the Lakhani check post near the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

According to Punjab Police, a group of 15 to 20 heavily armed militants launched a coordinated assault on the security post at dawn, using rocket launchers and other heavy weaponry.

The attackers attempted to storm the check post from multiple directions but were detected through thermal imaging cameras before they could advance further.

In a swift response, security personnel engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat. Officials confirmed that the militants suffered heavy casualties, though the exact number was not disclosed. No injuries were reported among security personnel.

This marks the second attempted attack on the Lakhani check post within a week. Six days earlier, another assault was repelled in a similar manner.

Inspector General of Punjab Police stated that the force has successfully foiled 19 attacks by militant groups in recent months. “The vigilance of our officers has ensured that these elements fail in their nefarious designs,” he said.

Security has been tightened in the region, with authorities vowing to continue their counter-terror operations to eliminate militant threats.
