The Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy being held in Pakistan and Dubai was announced on Saturday on the International Cricket Council (ICC) official website. To the relief of Indian cricket fans, Jasprit Bumrah is on the squad.
India Squad for Champions Trophy
Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja.
Bumrah’s inclusion is a relief for Indian cricket fans, as their star fast bowler, who has been exceptional as of late, had an unceremonious departure from the last test against Australia due to a back injury.
Sharma will be leading the squad as India search for their third Champions Trophy victory. India are in Group A and their three group stage matches take place on Feburary 20, Febryary 23, and March 2. They will face Bangladesh first, before the blockbuster contest against Pakistan. They will end their group stage matches with a game against New Zealand.
All of India’s matches will take place in Dubai due to the agreed upon hybrid-format which will see all of Pakistan and India’s matches in ICC events take place at a neutral location until 2028.
