ISLAMABAD: The federal government has intensified security measures in preparation for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned “do-or-die” protest. The Islamabad district administration has strategically placed shipping containers at all key entry points, including the Red Zone, Faizabad, Expressway, Kashmir Highway, Jinnah Avenue, IJP Road, Murree Road, and other major entry and exit routes. Roads are expected to be fully closed starting Saturday.
The city police have been put on high alert, with increased patrolling and random checks across the capital.
The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has ordered all bus stations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to shut down operations, warning of strict action against violators. Additionally, hostels across the city have been directed to close temporarily.
Public transport in the twin cities is also impacted, as the Metro Bus service will remain suspended on November 24.
To maintain order, Section 144 has been enforced in the federal capital for two months, banning public gatherings of five or more people, rallies, processions, and demonstrations. This directive was formalized in a notification issued by Additional District Magistrate Usman Ashraf.
The security response includes over 19,000 additional personnel deployed from Punjab, Sindh, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Motorways M1, M2, M3, M4, M11, and M14 have also been closed for traffic starting 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
In a related development, PTI faced a legal setback as the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled against holding protests over the weekend, further complicating the party’s plans.
Authorities remain vigilant to ensure law and order during the anticipated political activity.
