Pakistan Army Promotes Several Officers to Lieutenant-General

Pakistan Army has announced the promotion of several senior officers to Lieutenant General, assigning them to key strategic roles crucial for the military’s operational efficiency.

The newly promoted officers are Lt. Gen. Tabbasum Habib, Lt. Gen. Amir Najam, Lt. Gen. Arshad Naseem, Lt. Gen. Hassan Khattak, and Lt. Gen. Azhar Waqas. Each will now serve in influential command and administrative positions.

Lt. Gen. Ahsan Gulrez, promoted last year, has been appointed as the Commander of 2 Corps in Multan, one of the primary formations of the Pakistan Army. Previously, he served as the Director General Joint Staff (DG JS). Lt. Gen. Tabbasum Habib has been named the new DG Joint Staff, he will manage strategic coordination across military branches. His last assignment was as DG Perspective Planning.

Lt. Gen. Amir Najam will continue as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU), focusing on advanced military education. Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, the current President of NDU, is set to retire in December 2024. Lt. Gen. Arshad Naseem has assumed duties as Surgeon General, taking charge of military health services. This position had been vacant for several months.

Lt. Gen. Hassan Khattak will serve as Quarter Master General, responsible for logistics and supply management. He succeeds Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Ali, who is now the Secretary of Defence.

Lt. Gen. Azhar Waqas has been elevated to Adjutant General (AG) in Rawalpindi, he will oversee personnel policies, welfare, and human resources. Before this, he held the role of Director General of Rangers in Sindh.
