Pakistani weightlifter Nooh Dastgir Butt made a stunning international debut on Thursday at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Classic and Equipped Championships in South Africa, clinching gold in the squat event.

The Pride of Performance Award recipient and Commonwealth Games gold medalist lifted an impressive 370 kilograms in his first-ever powerlifting competition, held in Sun City, South Africa. This victory secured Butt’s place in history as Pakistan’s first gold medalist in powerlifting.

“Won gold medal at Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships 2024,” he announced in an Instagram post, adding confidently, “Stop me if you can, this Butt is not going to stop,” as he expressed gratitude to his supporters.

Butt is now gearing up to compete in the bench press and deadlift events, where he is expected to secure two more gold medals, aiming for the overall championship title in the 120kg+ category. His goal is to bring home a total of four gold medals.

Hailing from Gujranwala, Pakistan’s renowned hub for weightlifters and wrestlers, Butt has been lifting weights since the age of 11. By 18, he had already begun making his mark on the international stage.
