7 PTI lawyers arrested during violent clashes with police in Lahore

2 min read

Lahore police arrested six lawyers affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during a protest at GPO Chowk on Saturday.

The protest was part of a broader demonstration organised by the PTI to voice their grievances against the government. Later, the police started shelling inside the Aiwan-e-Adl as well.

The situation escalated when the police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters, who had gathered outside the Aiwan-e-Adl in Lahore. A large number of PTI workers and lawyers were present outside the court, as the forces began arresting them.

The lawyers, who were actively participating in the protest, were taken into custody after a brief stand-off with law enforcement.  The protesters were shouting slogans, as police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.

PTI senior leader Salman Akram Raja, who was also present at the scene, managed to leave GPO Chowk in a car before the arrests took place. He left just as the police began their crackdown on the protesting lawyers and PTI workers.

The protest, called by the PTI, saw a heavy police presence as authorities attempted to maintain order. The use of tear gas to disperse the crowd has led to a tense atmosphere in the area, with several protesters and lawyers clashing with the police.

The situation remains fluid as PTI supporters continue to protest across different parts of Lahore. On the other hand, more police force has arrived outside the Aiwan-e-Adl.
