Punjab’s 10 cities under threat: 960 dangerous criminals at large

2 min read

Ten major cities in Punjab are currently under threat from organized criminal activities, with law enforcement facing significant challenges in apprehending dangerous suspects.

According to police sources, a total of 960 suspects involved in serious crimes such as illegal occupation, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, and murder remain at large.

The cities most affected include Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad, where criminal gangs have become increasingly active. These cities, along with others, are now on high alert as law enforcement struggles to curb the rising tide of crime.

Police reports indicate that these criminals are affiliated with 273 different gangs operating across the province. Bahawalpur has the highest number of active dangerous criminals, with 264 suspects still evading arrest. In Dera Ghazi Khan, 134 suspects involved in serious crimes remain at large, while Faisalabad and Sahiwal are also hotspots with 53 and 55 dangerous suspects still unaccounted for, respectively.

Despite concerted efforts, the police have only managed to arrest 491 out of 1,451 identified suspects. This leaves 960 suspects, many of whom are considered highly dangerous, still on the run, posing a continued threat to public safety.

The inability to capture these criminals has become a significant challenge for law enforcement, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current strategies to combat organized crime in the province.
