Fake anti-polio vaccination scandal unearth in Balochistan

2 min read

Balochistan Health Department officials said some parents in an underhand agreement with polio workers did not administer polio drops to their children but ensured marks on children’s fingers.

The health department took action against more than 500 workers involved in fake vaccination.

Balochistan, which was polio-free for two years, once again started hovering in the dark clouds of poliovirus as 12 children became victims of the polio virus in the province during the last eight months.

The provincial health department has sounded alarm bells on the grieving situation.

Balochistan Emergency Operation Center Coordinator Inamul Haque said migration and refusing parents were major obstacles in the way of polio eradication in the province.

“The fake anti-polio campaign is also a major reason for the increase in cases,” Inam-ul-Haq said.

Three children suffering from polio have also died.

The provincial officials said with the increase in cases, the risk of death of children has also increased.

Dr. Aftab Kakar, Polio Campaign Technical Officer, said after the sudden increase in polio cases, the health department has decided to launch a special anti-polio campaign from September 9 across Balochistan.
