ISLAMABAD: The 97th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China was celebrated at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The event was also attended by Major General Wang Zhong, Defence Attaché, Chinese Embassy officials, and officers from the tri-services of Pakistan.

Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir welcomed the Chinese guests and congratulated the PLA on its anniversary and praised the PLA’s contributions to China’s defence, security, and national development.

“Pakistan-China relations are exceptional and have always weathered the vicissitudes of the strategic environment with mutual trust and unwavering belief in each other’s support,” General Munir stated.

He added, “Relations between Pakistan Army and People’s Liberation Army are strong, and both militaries continue to engage in bilateral military cooperation, demonstrating the iron-clad brotherhood between the two countries.”

In his remarks, the Chinese Ambassador expressed gratitude to the army chief for hosting the event. He acknowledged the Pakistani military’s efforts in countering terrorism and its significant sacrifices for peace and stability in Pakistan and the region.

“We stand ready to work with our brethren to combat terrorism and firmly believe that no force can destroy the iron-clad friendship between China and Pakistan and the brotherhood between the two militaries,” the Chinese Ambassador emphasized.
