GAZA: The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has risen to 37,718, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Wednesday.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 60 people and wounded 140 others, bringing the total death toll to 37,718 and injuries to 86,377 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in early October 2023, it added.

About 495,000 people, or 22 percent of the total population in Gaza, face acute food insecurity, as households are experiencing starvation, an extreme lack of food, and exhaustion of coping capacities, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, an innovative multi-partner initiative for improving food security and decision-making, said on social media platform X on Tuesday.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Gaza-ruling Hamas to retaliate against the latter’s rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage.
