Taliban Ministry of Health reported over 3,000 cases in the first four months of this year, a significant increase compared to previous years. Dr. Mohibullah Habibi revealed a distressing reality: hospitals are admitting nearly double the patients daily, highlighting the strain on healthcare facilities.
The measles outbreak is exacerbated by a lack of basic amenities and relief efforts, as seen in the recent floods in Ghor province. Over 100 lives were lost, with thousands injured and homes destroyed. Frustration mounts among survivors as aid fails to reach them promptly, amplifying the suffering.
Yasin Madin, a spokesperson for the People’s Committee, issued a plea for urgent assistance to prevent a looming humanitarian crisis in Ghor province.
While international organizations have provided some aid, challenges persist. The World Health Organization’s financial support to Afghan hospitals aims to address epidemic control, but more comprehensive efforts are required.
