The Punjab Assembly (PA) is set to convene tomorrow for its inaugural session following the general elections held on February 8.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman has formally issued a notification calling for the assembly meeting, marking a pivotal moment in the province’s political landscape.

Scheduled to commence at 10 am, the assembly session will witness the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members.

Among the key highlights of the event, Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibatin Khan will administer the oath to the elected representatives, marking their official induction into the legislative body.

With the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) securing the highest number of seats at 137, the political landscape is poised for a new era of governance. PML-N has also asserted its stronghold, claiming the support of over 190 members in the Punjab Assembly.

With a total of 157 seats currently accounted for, the PML-N anticipates further bolstering its standing with 34 anticipated seats for women and 4 for minorities, potentially securing a total of more than 195 seats.

Notably, a minimum of 186 seats is required for a simple majority in the Punjab Assembly.

Moreover, the count of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed candidates in the Punjab Assembly has surged to 110, as per reports.

It’s reported that 105 PTI-supported candidates have filed their affidavits through the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Out of the total, PTI has endorsed 20 candidates from North Punjab, 27 from Central Punjab, 30 from West Punjab, and 33 from South Punjab who have emerged victorious.

Amid burgeoning anticipation, Maryam Nawaz emerged as a formidable contender for the coveted position of Chief Minister of Punjab, nominated by the PML-N.

In a rival bid, Mian Aslam Iqbal of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is poised to contest the election for Leader of the House.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Party clinched 10 seats. However, the final distribution of seats awaits the Election Commission’s decision regarding the Sunni Ittehad Council, which will determine the precise composition of the assembly.

Meanwhile, PML-N’s nominee for Punjab CM slot Maryam Nawaz has also called for a parliamentary party meeting scheduled to convene at 9 a.m. tomorrow in the hallowed halls of the Punjab Assembly.

The decision to convene the gathering was confirmed by sources close to Maryam Nawaz, who emphasized the importance of addressing key matters facing the party.

As per directives issued by Maryam Nawaz herself, all members of the assembly are expected to promptly assemble at the Punjab Assembly premises at the designated time.
