Shoaib Malik match-fixing allegations debunked by BPL franchise

2 min read

Fortune Barisal, a prominent franchise in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has vehemently refuted allegations of match-fixing involving Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik, labeling them as unfounded.

The controversy stemmed from a social media post that claimed Malik’s contract with Barisal had been terminated due to fixing allegations. However, Barisal team’s media manager, Sikander, dismissed these claims as baseless.

According to Sikander, the reports circulating in the Bengali media regarding Shoaib Malik are devoid of truth. He clarified that Malik had expressed his willingness to return and play on February 6, but the team’s management did not accept his proposal. Consequently, the contract was terminated mutually.

In response to the allegations, Shoaib Malik refuted the media reports. He explained that his absence was due to pre-arranged personal commitments in Dubai and expressed his desire to return and participate in the league. Malik dismissed the notion of any other issues surrounding his absence as mere speculation.

The controversy sparked when Shoaib Malik reportedly bowled three consecutive no-balls in an over, raising eyebrows and triggering match-fixing accusations on social media.

However, both Malik and Fortune Barisal maintain that there was no foul play involved and that the situation surrounding his absence was a result of contractual and personal commitments rather than any wrongdoing.
