NANCHANG: The death toll from a building fire in the city of Xinyu in east China’s Jiangxi Province on Wednesday afternoon had risen to 39 as of 6:40 p.m., local authorities said.
The fire broke out at approximately 3:24 p.m. on the first underground floor of a street shop on Tiangongnan Avenue in the Yushui District of Xinyu, said the local fire response emergency headquarters.
Those injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Rescue efforts are underway, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
