UNITED NATIONS: Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Wednesday urged China and Peru to further consolidate political mutual trust, provide a strong guarantee for practical cooperation, and promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation so as to push bilateral ties to new heights.

Han made the remarks when meeting with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

He said that bilateral ties have stood the test of changing international situation over the past more than half a century since the two sides forged their diplomatic relations.

Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership, the vice president described Peru as China’s preferred partner for cooperation regarding the Global Development Initiative (GDI), saying that the Chinese side is ready to work with Peru to pursue deeper and more substantive results in promoting the GDI.

The Chinese side, Han said, is also willing to closely work with Peru on multilateral platforms with the purpose of maintaining shared interests of developing countries and rendering the international order fairer and more equitable.

Boluarte said bilateral ties with China have witnessed sound development, and cooperation between the two countries boasts great potential.

She said her country welcomes investment from Chinese firms, adding that Peru is ready to maintain close high-level exchanges with China and promote practical cooperation in various fields.
