
BEIJING: Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.12 percent to 3,082.24 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.02 percent higher at 10,256.19 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 785.7 billion yuan (about 109.3 billion U.S. dollars), up from 705.9 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the liquor-making industry led the gains, while those related to the cement industry suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.26 percent to close at 2,064.57 points Thursday.
