Rajinikanth starrer enters Rs 100 crore club in just three days

Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest film ‘Jailer’ hit theaters on Thursday creating a big buzz at the box office. Now, in just three days, the film has earned over Rs 100 crore in India. On its opening day, the film made an impressive Rs 48.35 crore. Following that, it collected Rs 25.75 crore and Rs 35 crores on the second and third days respectively, according to the trade portal Sacnilk. The total collection now stands at Rs 109.10 crores. Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film recorded an overall 83.70% Tamil Occupancy on Saturday.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “In USA, as of 6:30 PM PST Saturday, August 12th, #Jailer has crossed $900K. $1 Million is possible today.” In a previous tweet, Bala shared that Jailer had earned a total of $3.17 million in the US. Bala also mentioned that in Australia, Jailer has done better at the box office than Thalapathy Vijay’s film Master.

Jailer has outperformed Vijay’s Varisu ($1.14 million) and Ajith’s Thunivu ($880K) in the USA, in terms of lifetime box office collection. Jailer also has cameos by Malayalam actor Mohanlal and Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar. The film also stars Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia and Vinayakan among others. The film marks the return of Rajinikanth, after two years of hiatus. He was last seen in the film  Annaatthe.

A day after Jailer was released, Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 also hit theaters. Bhola Shankar opened with Rs 20 crores, while Gadar 2 had an impressive debut, earning Rs 40 crores.
