
BEIJING: Chinese stocks closed higher Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent to 3,254.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.1 percent higher at 11,050.22 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 694.2 billion yuan (about 96.96 billion U.S. dollars), down from 736.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Shares in the sectors of gas and airports led the gains, while those related to superconductors, brain-computer interfaces, and automotive, suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.47 percent to close at 2,239.31 points.
