Weekly inflation rate falls to 28.55% lowest since October 2022

The price of a 20 kg wheat flour bag now stands at Rs 2,746.36, up from Rs 2,639.51 per bag in the week before Eid. PBS did not release data for the week ending June 29, 2023 due to the Eid-ul-Azhar holiday.

Residents of Karachi are paying the most for a bag of wheat flour, which sells between Rs 150-190 per kg in various markets in the city.

While official data shows the average price in the city at Rs 2,957.16, it is Rs 210.80 higher than the national average.

During the week ended June 22, 2023, the average price of a 20 kg bag was Rs 2,639.51, while in the previous week, the price was Rs 2,514.99.

A retail shop owner in Karachi said he was selling wheat flour at Rs 160-170 per kg depending on the quality. “If anyone sells wheat flour for more than Rs 170, they are stealing from consumers,” he said.

A city-wise breakdown of PBS price statistics shows that last week, the commodity proved to be the most expensive for Islamabad after Karachi, at Rs 2,933.29 per bag.

Among other cities, from highest to lowest price, residents of Rawalpindi pay Rs 2,924.41 per bag; Hyderabad residents paid Rs 2,879.98; Sialkot Rs 2,800; Sukkur 2,760.60 rupees; Gujranwala and Sargodha Rs2,733; Lahore Rs 2,730.84; Larkana Rs 2,726; Peshawar Rs 2,720.80; Multan Rs2,704.86; Quetta Rs 2,689.99; Faisalabad Rs 2,632.91; Khuzdar and Bahawalpur Rs 2,600; And residents of Bannu paid Rs 2,599.68, which was the lowest among the 17 urban centres.

Depicting a YoY trend of 28.55% growth due to increase in prices of wheat flour (121.69%), cigarettes (112.94%), gas charges for Q1 (108.38%), tea (102.86%), broken basmati rice (77.40%)., rice iri-6/9 (74.61%), potato (69.06%), chicken (63.22%), gents sponge chappal (58.05%), powdered salt (51.61%), sugar (50.08%), banana (48.96% ) ) and bread (46.86%).
