Lahore Qalandars, two-time champions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2022 and 2023, have expanded their presence in franchise cricket by acquiring a team in the upcoming Gym Afro T10 League.

The newly formed Durban Qalandars will take part in the inaugural edition of the league. The management of Qalandars are enthusiastic about this new venture and aim to replicate their success from the PSL in Zimbabwe’s premier league.

Zim Afro T10 is affiliated with Abu Dhabi T10 League and supported by T Ten Global Sports. The first edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held from July 20 to 29, with the players’ draft to be held on July 2.

Earlier, the Qalandars joined the Toronto Nationals ahead of the Global T20 (GT20) in Canada. The reigning PSL champions will outsource their coaching staff led by Aqib Javed.

Along with Akib, full-time bowling coach Waqas Ahmed, fielding coach Shahzad Butt and performance analyst Nabil Azar Paes will also be part of the Canadian franchise.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the GT20 here in Canada and help the Toronto Nationals set their roster and provide them with their full coaching staff for the upcoming season,” said Sameen Rana, Chief Operating Officer of Lahore Qalandars.

“In our role, we will help the franchise achieve their ambition of winning the league. The deal is first of its kind and is initially for one season and we will see how it goes.”

“For us, it can also act as talent scouting towards some unseen players from partner countries. Who knows we may find another Team David outside of another partner country who can go ahead and become part of a larger cricket ecosystem,” he added.
