Ireland batsman Harry wins ICC Player of Month award

2 min read

Ireland batsman Harry Tector won the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player of the Month award for May 2023, beating Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Bangladesh’s Nazmul Hussain Shanto.

Tector proved his mettle in the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh, scoring a career-best 140 off just 113 balls to help Ireland post a big score in the first ODI of the three-match series.

The middle-order batsman came on at number four when his side were struggling at 16-2 in the 7th over.

However, he turned the contest around with a 48-ball 45 in the third ODI against Bangladesh when he was dismissed at the end of the 42nd over.

Tector became the first Irish player to win the ICC Player of the Month award.

“I am delighted to receive the award and would like to thank those who voted for me; however, cricket is first and foremost a team sport, so the award is more a reflection of the performance and progress of the Ireland men’s squad,” Tector said.

“Without Heinrich’s support [Malan]andrew [Balbirnie] And with the dedicated coaches and players I work with, I could not have won this award.

“Thank you ICC but I’m sure you will understand that this will only be a brief moment of reflection as we have an important qualifier starting in a few days and our focus will only be on that in the coming weeks,” the young cricketer concluded.
